Future Jobs

What jobs will there be a need for in the near future?

Technology is changing the way we see the world and how do we relate with it. In this article we show you how the job market is evolving and in which fields you should be focusing on. Would you need to give a twist in your career? Discover it!

Now more than ever the rise of the robots has never been so real. The job market is evolving and if predictions are correct nearly 100% of jobs in the future will be affected by advances in technology. It seems like in almost every industry computers are taking on a more significant role. Industry 4.0 is here, and it includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things, cloud computing and cognitive computing. Industry leaders and CEO’s in many industries are currently making people redundant because their jobs are being automated. While at the same time, there aren’t enough skilled employees to fill the gaps left in the labour market with the introduction of new technologies.

So, the question is: How can we try to future-proof our careers in the face of automation?

The world of work is changing so rapidly that it is almost impossible to imagine what the job market will look like in twenty years. However, there is one thing for certain. Human input and skills will never be completely redundant. A lot of the jobs involving personal interaction won’t be affected. Jerry Kaplan, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur who teaches a class in artificial intelligence at Stanford, explains, “Nobody wants to go to a robotic undertaker who says ‘I’m sorry for your loss’; it’s just not meaningful. But it depends on the activity – the more transactional it is, the more likely it is to be automated. If you go to a fancy restaurant, you don’t want a robotic waiter. On the other hand, if you go to McDonald’s, you won’t have a problem with punching buttons and having a burger come out of a chute somewhere.” If your job is related to your people skills, then you are more than likely safe.

However, what about the rest of us?

The key will be a combination of our human skills and values with technological skills. While advances in technology will mean that we can’t escape technology it is also true that without a thinking, feeling being behind that technology it will have little value.
